Hey

I guess I’m doing a blog now? idk. This is going to be a bunch of poorly edited rambling most likely. I’m just a bit exhausted with the current iterations of mass social media. All it’s doing these days is inducing doomscrolling because of uspol, showing me beautiful pictures of Type-Moon girls, and driving me insane with an algorithm optimized to annoy me. That second one was good, but it’s failing to make up for the bad.
So I thought about how to rework my presence on the internet. My friend inspired me to do this when she asked for a twitter shaped private journal. She wanted somewhere to fling the brain foam she could search back on and is immune to randos adding their opinion. I really liked the idea. I built it for her (more on that post here) [TODO: write that post] and it worked out really well for her.
It helped me realize that I could have a better time on the internet. I didn’t have to use bluesky, twitter, mastodon, whatever to maintain a presence on the internet I could fling brain foam and keep up with friends.
I wanted four things out of the internet:
- A place for longer-than-twitter form writing. This.
- A twitter shaped feed that I make my shitty little posts.
- RSS feeds to enable keeping up with the above automatically.
- Chatroom with friends.
I could have all these things. The RSS feeds I feel really tie the thing together. RSS is still great in 2025! You like your timelines? RSS lets you build your own timelines and categorize it however you want! I follow my friends blogs and curated news sites via RSS. I think the new idea I’m trying here is basically tying a twitter-style posting feed to an RSS feed. Activitypub compatible servers always supported RSS, but I wonder if anybody’s thought to treat them like a micro-blog with no real timeline to scroll.
Chatroom is solved with Discord. It’s not quite “my own space”, but I’m not going to try to pretend that anybody normal wants to use IRC anymore. And I’ve grown fond of being able to stick Cirno on messages
So thats what I’m going to try to do! I’m going to post longer form stuff here, like thoughts I had about a video game, stuff I saw online, things that don’t fit in a 240 character post. Over at https://posting.helios.place I’ll post generally how I post on Bluesky now. My stupid little jokes and short thoughts. I might also rig up some browser extension to let me cross-post cool posts from the Cursed Sites to my private little feed. I’ll probably post on Bluesky when I make a new blog post so theres some way to send replies in the context of the posts. I might look into implementing something like https://isso-comments.de/ but I’m hesitant because comment systems are spam magnets.
RSS feed links will be on this site and the micro-blog! Feel free to add them to your RSS readers! Maybe I’ll make a post later about readers I liked.
Additionally, if you’re active on a Mastodon-like server, you can follow my micro-blog! It’s just a solo mastodon server. Note I won’t follow back because I’m trying to remove social media TLs for now.
Please feel free to add and DM me on Discord! Invite me to your hang-out servers! I’m not in many servers so it’s easy for me to keep up. I really want to move as much of my efforts to keep up with mutuals off of bluesky/twitter as I can and would welcome cold DMs. Promise. Even if it’s to comment on something I posted with little expectation of a reply! I’ll probably be lurking on social media in a read only fashion for a while still.

I think maybe I’ll write something to show people how to make their own reliable website like this one for free. I think it would be better if we all went back to having our own websites and RSS feeds to follow each other.
P.S.: I did my best to check that the site doesn’t look ugly on light mode but ultimately I only use dark mode. がんばって
